Read more about Event Honorees, Andrea and Jack Platt

In 2004 Jack participated in his first of nine Israel Rides. It was also his first trip to Israel. The Arava Institute resonated with Jack and later in the year he joined the Board of Trustees of the Friends of the Arava Institute. Andrea joined Jack in working to promote the Institute and they have hosted many alumnae as they travel in the States.

Jack is currently the Chair of the Audit Committee of FAI and on the Executive Board. Andrea has worked as a Paralegal for many years, taking a break to manage a group of retail gift shops in Philadelphia area hospitals and be a Mother to Louis and his older brothers Kevin and Cameron. Recently Andrea returned to work as a paralegal with a law firm in Plymouth Meeting. Jack started his career working with an International CPA firm and then with a local CPA firm. After a short stint as CFO of a service business in Philadelphia, Jack started a CPA firm in 1978. Over the next twenty years the firm grew to become a mid-sized local firm in Philadelphia. In 1999 Jack became CFO of a manufacturing business until 2011 when health issues forced him to begin dialysis. Through the years Andrea and Jack have been active in the community, volunteering and supporting organizations in the Philadelphia area and in Israel. The Arava Institute has resonated and consumed most of their interest over the past decade. Jack is a past president of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Pennsylvania Institute of CPA’s and has served as a board member of the Cheltenham School District Foundation and Old York Road Temple Beth Am. Kevin, Cameron and Louis, their three sons, have kept the house busy over the years and now Kevin is living in St. Louis and Cameron in Atlanta. Louis will be graduating High School in the spring.

While living a more or less “normal” life until five years ago, Jack’s health has changed what normal looks like. When his kidneys failed, he elected to take dialysis at home, six days a week, and Andrea trained to become his “care partner.” In 2014 Jack received a transplant however it began to fail shortly after it was transplanted and he was back on dialysis after six months. In 2015 Jack became the first Israel Ride participant to ride and dialyze. Kevin came on the Ride as his Care Partner. With that success, in 2016 Jack was able to ride with Louis and again dialyze with the help of his medical chauffer and “adopted” daughter Ya’ara.

Read more about Featured Performer, David Broza

brozaIsraeli superstar David Broza has been considered one of the most dynamic and vibrant performers in the singer/songwriter world. His charismatic and energetic performances have brought to worldwide audiences a fusion of three different countries in which he was raised: Israel, Spain, and England. He fills concert halls with exquisite guitar playing ranging from flamenco-flavored rhythmic and percussive techniques, to whirlwind finger-picking, to a signature rock’n’roll sound.

Broza unites the three worlds by utilizing his ability to take on the troubadour tradition, featuring lyrics of the worlds’ greatest poets. More than a singer/songwriter, David Broza is also well known for his commitment and dedication to several humanitarian causes, predominantly the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.Beginning in 1977, Broza began working to bring the message of peace to the masses by joining peace movements and singing what has become the anthem of the peace process, his hit song, “Yihye Tov”. Since that time, Broza has released over 30 albums in Hebrew, English and Spanish, many of which have become gold and platinum albums.
