Arava Institute Funding Resources

The Arava Institute for Environmental Studies hopes to provide all qualified and motivated students with the opportunity to learn and grow at the Arava Institute. These scholarship opportunities may assist with the cost of tuition.

The Arava Institute for Environmental Studies offers a range of partial and full scholarships to students from different backgrounds. Please contact admissions@arava.org for more information about Arava Institute scholarships.

Funding for Students from North America

Some scholarships, including the Schor Scholarship for North American students, have cutoff dates to be considered for these merit-based awards. Please submit your application no later than April 15 (for the fall semester) and November 15 (for the spring semester) if you would like to be considered for additional scholarships.

Friends of the Arava Institute Scholarship

The U.S.-based Friends of the Arava Institute is pleased to offer limited scholarships in the amount of $500-2,000 for eligible North American students interested in fall semester study abroad. Click here to apply.

MASA Scholarships
Masa Israel Journey connects Jewish young adults (ages 18-30) to gap year, study abroad, post-college, and volunteer programs.

Abe and Gert Nutkis Scholarship
Enables young adults 18-30 to study in Israel and foster personal involvement with Israel society.

American Jewish League, Israel University Scholarship 
Provides eligible students scholarships to attend Israeli universities.

API Study Abroad Scholarships
API awards approximately $500,000 in study abroad scholarships annually ranging from $250 -$1,000 per student.

Benjamin Gilman Scholarship
The Gilman Scholarship Program provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two- or four-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide.

Davis Putter Scholarships
The Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund provides grants to university students who are part of the progressive movement on campus or the community, actively working for peace and justice.

Diversity Abroad Scholarships
Diversity Abroad offers a directory of scholarships for students of all backgrounds and experience levels to participate in international opportunities.

The Foundation for Jewish Philanthropies
The Israel Scholarship Committee of the Foundation for Jewish Philanthropies administers a limited amount of financial assistance for high school and college students to travel and study in Israel.

Fulbright Scholarships
The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.

Go Overseas Volunteer/Intern Abroad Scholarship
The Go Overseas Volunteer and Intern Abroad Scholarship offers $500 scholarships twice a year for internship or volunteer programs.

Harold Grinspoon Foundation
For residents of Western Massachusetts and Southern Vermont only

Helyn B. Reich Memorial Scholarship Fund
Reich scholarships are awarded each year to a limited number of American students who choose to study at one of several designated Israeli universities or attend post-college long-term programs.

Israel Campus Roundtable
For students who attend school or have a permanent address in Boston, MA.

Jeff Seidel’s Scholarship to Israel
$500 scholarships towards airfare to come to study in Israel on affiliated programs for Birthright Israel and Hillel alumni.

AACI-UIA Canada Scholarship Fund
For students with joint Israeli-Canadian citizenship

Barbara Epstein Sivan Scholarship Fund

This scholarship is supported by Barbara Epstein Sivan and is designed to promote the Arava Institute while providing financial aid for students studying at BGU. Undergraduate students who register at Ben-Gurion University after completing a semester of studies at the Arava Institute may apply for this scholarship.

Magbit Canada
Jewish federations of Canada- UIA offers several scholarships that provide a range of educational opportunities throughout Israel, enabling young adults to study at academic institutions across the country.

The Wisam Khamees Scholarship for Arabs and Jews
The Wisam Khamees Scholarship Fund for Arabs and Jews is dedicated to supporting Israelis in their pursuit of higher education, and is committed to promoting academic advancement as well as equality and coexistence in Israel.

**Program fees for Arab Israelis, Palestinians, and Jordanians: The Arava Institute offers a full scholarship for students who are Arab Israeli, Palestinian, or Jordanian. Please email Laura Shulton, Admission Coordinator, for more information at admissions@arava.org.
