MAKING A DIFFERENCE
Are you interested in supporting the environment at your bar or bat mitzvah? Would you like your friends and family to learn about efforts to pursue environmental peace-building in Israel? Consider including the Arava Institute, an environmental research and academic institution in Israel, dedicated to preparing future leaders from Israel, Palestine, Jordan, and around the world to cooperatively solve the regional and global challenges of our time.
If you’d like to honor the Arava Institute as your b’nai mitzvah project, we’d be happy to promote your project on our social media pages!
Some project ideas to consider include:
- Become a temporary social media ambassador for the Arava Institute
- Hold an event at your school or club to learn about the Arava Institute
- Organize a cleanup of your local parks and green spaces
- Organize a local bike ride to raise funds to support the Arava Institute

When you direct your friends and family to make donations to the Friends of the Arava Institute, their contributions will support the Arava Institute’s efforts to pursue environmental justice and peace-building efforts in the region. You’ll be contributing to a sustainable future for Israel, Palestine, and Jordan. And, we will send you a certificate and some Arava Institute gifts in gratitude!
If you choose to direct your friends and family to make donations to the Friends of the Arava Institute, here is a template you can use:
I am very excited and looking forward to celebrating my bar/bat mitzvah. As both the care of the environment and peace are two Jewish values that speak to me, I have decided to support the work of the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies located on Kibbutz Ketura. At the Arava Institute, future leaders from Israel, Palestine, Jordan, and around the world study and work to cooperatively solve the regional and global challenges of our time. I ask that you consider making a donation to the Arava Institute in honor of this important day in my life. You can make a donation at: https://arava.org/giving

“I organized a fundraiser. Friends and family members contributed. Environmental problems create so many opportunities for us to make the world a better place—right now and for future generations. I really admire the Arava Institute’s focus on bringing people together and proving that nature knows no political borders.”
