Beginning of Fall 2017 Semester

Last week we welcomed 46 new students and interns to the Fall 2017 semester! Participants come from Israel, Jordan, Palestine, the United States, France, Germany, and Rwanda.

They spent their first few days in introductory activities, getting to know each other and their new environment, as well as learning how to live in the unique multicultural setting on the Arava Institute campus. They also went on a regional trip to experience their desert surroundings, including a hike at Nahal Kasui, a tour of Kibbutz Neot Smadar and a site visit to Timna Park. In addition to the usual orientation schedule, the students and interns had an opportunity to join the Kibbutz Ketura community in a meeting with Member of Knesset Yael Cohen Paran, Israeli environmentalist and politician and co-chair of the Green Movement.

This week, students will have a chance to participate in all offered classes before finalizing their course selection for the semester, while interns will be introduced to their individual supervisors and begin working on their research projects.

We wish everyone a successful and enriching semester, and look forward to getting to know all the new faces at the Arava Institute!
