Application Instructions for all programs

Suitable candidates from all over the world are welcome to apply for study and internships at the Arava Institute. Each program has its own requirements for application and admission. To apply, choose the program that best suits your interests from the list below:

Application requirements:

  • A copy of your unofficial transcript from the university at which you most recently studied.
  • The Academic or Professional Reference form completed by a faculty member with whom you have studied in the last year, a teacher, past or current employer, or army officer. The Academic/professional referee (academic preferred) may use our academic reference form or a format of his or her choosing, and must email the reference directly to the Arava Institute.
  • The Personal Reference form completed by a person familiar with you (excluding relatives). Your referee may use our personal reference form or a format of his or her choosing, and must email the reference directly to the Arava Institute.
  • The Medical Reference form completed and signed by your physician.
  • The Study Abroad Approval Form (for students applying through their study abroad office).
  • A one-page typed essay describing your interest in studying at the Arava Institute and explaining how your experience at the Institute will meet your academic and professional goals.
  • A scan of your passport (internationals only)
  • A digital photo

A US $50 application fee (100 NIS for Middle Eastern applicants) is required to complete your application.

Students outside of the United States can pay via bank transfer, and should be in touch with the Admissions Coordinator.

Applicants are required to participate in a Zoom or phone interview, and may be required to complete an English language test.

Application deadlines are rolling. 

Some merit-based scholarships, including the Schor Scholarship for North American students, have cutoff dates by which an application must be received in order to be considered. If you would like to be considered for additional merit-based funding, please submit your application no later than April 15 (for the fall semester) and November 15 (for the spring semester).

International students must complete the application process by the following dates due to visa requirements:

  • December 1 for Spring Semester
  • July 1 for Fall/Autumn Semester

Application requirements:

  • Your most recent CV
  • An unofficial transcript from the university at which you most recently studied.
  • A one page letter of intent describing your interest in the Arava Institute (AIES). The letter should include:
  1. How you became interested in AIES.
  2. Which position/research center you are applying for and why.
  3. How the internship meets your academic and professional goals
  4. The earliest and latest date possible for you to intern here
  • The Academic or Professional Reference form completed by a faculty member with whom you have studied in the last year, a teacher, past or current employer, or army officer. The academic referee may use our academic reference form or a format of his or her choosing, and must email the reference directly to the Arava Institute.
  • The Personal Reference form completed by a person familiar with you (excluding relatives). Your referee may use our personal reference form or a format of his or her choosing, and must email the reference directly to the Arava Institute.
  • The Medical Reference form completed and signed by your physician.
  • Please include your Masa application, if applicable
