The Center for Transboundary Water Management received a British Council grant to work with researchers at Aston University and at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom on the development of desalination solutions for brackish groundwater for irrigation. Project researchers successfully built and tested a prototype system and are now installing a larger system on a Palestinian farm in the West Bank where saline groundwater is limiting the kinds of crops that can be grown. On site and off grid desalination can improve water quality and thus expand the kinds of crops that can be grown.
