New Friends of the Arava Institute CEO: Rachel Kalikow

The Friends of the Arava Institute is thrilled to announce the appointment of Rachel Kalikow as its next Chief Executive Officer. Rachel assumed the leadership role on June 1st, 2024.

Rachel brings a wealth of experience to her new position. Rachel’s track record and passion for Israel aligns with the Arava Institute’s mission to build a sustainable future for Israelis, Palestinians, and Jordanians. In her previous role as the Chief Development Officer of the Friends of the Arava Institute, Rachel oversaw 50% growth in the annual campaign including significant growth in institutional and individual supporters.

“We are incredibly excited to welcome Rachel as CEO of the Friends of the Arava Institute,” said Karen Schapiro, Chair of the Board of Directors. “She has demonstrated her drive and ability to advance the Arava Institute’s mission and support the Institute’s growth by building relationships with key institutions and donors.”

“I am honored to be named the new CEO of the Friends of the Arava Institute,” said Rachel. “Having lived in Israel, with close family and friends there, and having spent time in the region, I am mindful of the role the environment can play in bringing people together. As soon as I learned about the Arava Institute, it captured my heart. I’m excited to lead Friends of the Arava Institute into its next phase of growth to elevate the Arava Institute as a leader in regional environmental cooperation.”

Rachel succeeds Miriam May, who retired on May 31st after nearly eight years as CEO of Friends of the Arava Institute leading tremendous growth for the organization.
