The Arava Institute is seeking a Director of the Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation

About the Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation
The Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (CREEC) was established in 2008 at the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies (AIES) on Kibbutz Ketura. Through a partnership with the Dead Sea and Arava Science Center (DSASC), CREEC leads research and development initiatives concerning renewable energy in the southern Arava region. CREEC projects explore a variety of subjects focusing on energy policy, energy efficiency and conservation, and renewable energy production. The Center supports research and development in regional initiatives, pilot projects, and commercial operations of renewable energy technology with the Eilat-Eilot Renewable Energy Initiative. The Center also oversees the renewable energy academic studies programs at the Arava Institute.

Job Description (a full-time position shared between AIES and DSASC):

  • Conducting research in renewable energy and energy conservation
  • Managing the operation and administration of the Center
  • Writing research grant proposals to national and international organizations and governmental offices
  • Supervising master’s students
  • Supervising research interns
  • Maintaining an ongoing relationship with the appropriate departments at Ben-Gurion University, the Sde Boker Campus, York University, the Renewable Energy Initiative of Hevel Eilot and Capital Nature.
  • Teaching a minimum of two courses a year at the Arava Institute
  • Working with the AIES Academic Director in implementing a program for a Master’s Degree in Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation
  • Overseeing the research facilities: laboratories, demonstration site and equipment (in the Research and Visitor’s Park)
  • Duties required of all AIES and DSASC staff members
