Celebrating the Spring 2026 semester: Knowledge, resilience, and community

Last week marked the conclusion of our Spring 2026 semester, a diverse group of students and interns who spent the past four months studying environmental challenges, building cross-cultural relationships, and engaging in meaningful dialogue during a particularly challenging time in our region.

Throughout the semester, our participants explored topics ranging from water management and renewable energy to ecology and sustainable development. Along the way, they also experienced the unique spirit of the Arava Institute, one that combines scientific inquiry with open dialogue.

In her graduation address, Academic Director Dr. Jessica Schäckermann reflected on the significance of the group’s journey:

“You chose not the easy path, but the meaningful one. You chose a program that does not avoid complexity, that does not stay silent in the face of conflict, but instead creates space for difficult conversations, honest, respectful, and human.”

Her remarks highlighted the courage required to come together during a time of regional uncertainty and emphasized the importance of resilience, empathy, and connection.

As the Spring 2026 graduates return to their home communities, they carry with them new knowledge, lasting friendships, and a deeper understanding of how cooperation can help address both environmental and societal challenges.

We congratulate our newest cohort of alumni, and look forward to seeing the impact they will make in the years ahead.

Welcome to the Arava Institute family!
