Statement: 19/6/2025

The Arava Institute expresses our deep concern for the safety and well-being of those affected by the escalating war between Israel and Iran, and across the region.

Alongside this new war, the ongoing violence across Gaza, Palestine, and Israel stands in direct opposition to the values the Arava Institute holds dear: human dignity, environmental peacebuilding, and dialogue. The ongoing suffering of civilians in Gaza, the continued captivity of Israeli hostages, the growing militarization of the Occupation in the West Bank, and the bombardment of civilian populations in Israel and Iran, are painful illustrations of how war dehumanizes people and endangers the environment we all share.

Cooperation and dialogue are the only means toward long-term solutions to the conflict in our region. The Institute believes that dialogue, partnership, and shared purpose can help us build a sustainable future with safety, peace, justice, and hope for all people in the region.

The Arava Institute’s work is proof that even during conflict, people from different backgrounds can work together to protect the environment and build a better future. We are committed to continuing this work by building trust through environmental cooperation, supporting sustainability and humanitarian aid, and helping our region face the growing challenges of climate change.
